Located in the southwest of Shanghai, a center of commerce, finance, culture and industrial production of China, East China University of Science and Technology is a dynamic and prominent research-intensive university with high teaching quality.
The history of education of the university can be dated back to Nanyang Public School (1896) and Université d’Aurora (1903). The university was officially founded in 1952 after the mergence of chemical or chemistry departments from Jiaotong University, Université d’Aurora, Utopia University, Soochow University and Jiangnan University, and became the first chemical industry oriented university in China named as East China Institute of Chemical Technology.
School of Chemical Engineering
The School of Chemical Engineering is the core unit of ECUST in chemical engineering and technology disciplines. The chemical engineering and technology is the first batch of national key disciplines. In 2017, the discipline was selected as a world-class level construction discipline. In 2014, the School of Chemical Engineering passed the ABET (American Engineering and Technology Appraisal Committee) certification, the first ABET-certified university in China. Currently, there are more than 1600 undergraduates, more than 1080 master students, and more than 120 doctoral students in the school.
State key laboratory of Chemical Engineering
The State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering was established with the approval of Ministry of Education of China in 1987. It was opened and started operation in 1991. The State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering has four branches, located in ECUST, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, and Tianjin University. Research in ECUST branch focuses on reaction kinetics and chemical thermodynamics, multiphase fluid mechanics and interfacial transfer process, and chemical system intelligence and optimization

Shanghai, is located at shore of the East China Sea, at the estuary of Yangtze River. Shanghai is the Chinese biggest city, which is one of foreign reform and open policy window in China. Shanghai is Chinese biggest trade and financial center, and also is important international port city in the West Pacific section.
In recent years, plenty of modem buildings have been constructed in the city, which have become new scenic sights in Shanghai. Colorful festivities, like Shanghai Tourism Festivities and Shanghai China International Art Festival, have attracted increasing number of tourists from home and overseas.
The city is an emerging tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as the Huangpu River Bund and Xintiandi. Its modern and ever-expanding Pudong skyline including the Oriental Pearl Tower, and its new reputation as a center of culture and design.
Its location is at the tip of Lujiazui in Pudong New Area along Huangpu River. The tower was completed in 1994, with 468 m (1,535 feet) in height. It was the tallest structure in China during 1994 to 2007, after then it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center. It is classified as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration. The tower features 11 spheres, big and small. They are linked by three columns, each 9 m (30 feet) in diameter. The highest sphere is 14 m (46 feet) in diameter.
Cruising on the Huangpu River, you can gaze at the mighty skyscrapers, the Monument Tower to the People's Heroes, the famous Waibaidu Bridge and Huangpu Park on one bank, and the orient Pearl TV Tower, International Convertion Center, Jin Mao Building and the newly rising Pudong New Area on the other. The Yangpu and Nanpu bridges span the river.
Shanghai Xintiandi is a historical and cultural character of tourist attractions. It is famous for unique Shikumen (Shanghai-style) urban construction, which currently have lots of world-class restaurants, business, entertainments, culture, and bars.
